Seeing Things, Part 9: Second Cover Mockup

Dear Blog Friends:

After I posted the cover mockups on Wednesday, I decided to try an iconic cover instead.  First, I went to my favorite coffee shop and asked for a large Irish Breakfast, hold the water.  After a few puzzled looks, I came home with a few tablespoons of tea, which I brewed and drank.  With a palete knife, an ironed napkin for the background, and a large handful of hours with gimp, I came up with this.

That’s not entirely accurate. This is actually not the final version, or even the penultimate one, because I tinkered with it a little more.  I got rid of that pale line ringing the cup, and I fixed the g on “Things” and I put in filters so that the writing and symbols show. I haven’t converted that one to jpg though, so you can see this one instead.

Honestly, I think I like this one a lot better than the one with the model. (Sorry, A.)  I think I will make two covers, and keep both of them on hand in case I have different versions.  I’m thrilled with how this looks, and I’m already planning the second book’s cover with an iconic image (not a teacup.)

Thoughts?

P.S. More free fiction next week.

My wife says she likes this cover a lot better than the ones with the model.
