Pale violet bowl

I wanted the edge of this bowl to be fluted like the petals of a lotus, but it spun out of kilter while I was flaring it out.  It will still work for floating roses in, assuming I get some roses on my new bushes.

These are simple to make, and we often make them if there isn’t enough time left in class for anything else.  You can make them with spiraled stems, but I like them straight, as they fit into a cupholder.

Wrinkled Blue-Green Vase

This is one of my latest vases from class.  The wrinkling on the sides is unintentional.  I think I’ve discovered the cause: I’m going in too far to the gloryhole when I’m trying to heat just the lip, and it’s making the vessel wrinkle.  I had two, the other was nearly identical to this, but …

Blue and Violet glass

This glass is made with amethyst frit and cobalt frit.  The cobalt turns an iridescent lavender when it’s incandescent hot.  It reminds me of the pinkish-lavender that some cobalt based underglazes have.    It’s hard to see the color in this light, because it’s so dark, but it’s intense dark blue with dots of violet.

Amythest and Iris Gold glass

I like the Iris Gold color because it’s unpredictable.  Sometimes it’s clear yellow, but it interacted with the amythest to create a shimmery blue in some lights.  It reduces to a mirrored finish, like raku glazes, but I prefer it translucent.
