Varnish Emu Cup

varnish-emu-cup-top.jpgvarnish-emu-cup.jpgGabrielle Koza and Daphne Azzi, two of my fellow students at the Tempe Arts Center, created new glazes this session.  When they tested them, we all voted on the favorites, and these glazes were two of the winners.  The yellowish one was named “Desert Varnish” and the other was named “Emu”.  Gabrielle wanted to know what they would look like on porcelain, and this cup wouldn’t survive on account of a hairline crack (or so I thought) so I volunteered it to be a test tile.

Not only did the crack prove un-fatal for the cup, but the glaze combination turned out well too.

A very elegant pencil-holder (if the crack’s still there).
